Introducing skin care teacher, Katarina Vestin. She is a registered skin care teacher at Elisabethskolan in Stockholm and has provided us with her top tips during this uncertain time. We hope that it helps those of you who are looking for some new ways to take care of yourself and show some self-love.

How do you reduce dark circles when you have to spend hours on a laptop daily?

The skin around the eyes is very thin and the blood vessles become more visible, that’s why dark circles around the eyes can be hard to treat but it can also be due to sleep deprivation, sun damage, reduced circulation (when sitting in front of computers for example). An eye cream or eye gel is specially adapted to the area around the eyes and hydrates, stimulates microcirculation, strengthens the skin and reduces signs of tiredness which gives a more happy and awake skin.

How is the skin affected by being indoors more?

Most people know that the air outside is drier and the humidity is lower this time of the year, but that also applies to the indoors air. Boilers, stoves and heaters go on high, which contributes to drier indoor air which can give drier and less humid skin. We can treat the skin with properly adapted products that moisturize intensively, nourish and in some cases also add lipids when the skin produces to little sebum.

How can you adjust your skin care routine accordingly?

Use a gentle cleanser that dissolves all makeup, superficial impurities and slag without drying out. A moisturizing facial water is a must since ordinary water has a higher pH value than the skin and thus dries out. A carefully chosen peeler sweeps away all dry skin cells, softens up and gives new glow to the skin. Be sure to treat yourself with a mask that nourishes, gives vitamins and raises the moisture level of the skin. Invest in a moisturizing serum that strengthens, binds moisture deeper to the skin and protects against dehydration. Choose an eye cream that nourishes the skin. Make sure to choose a day and night cream that is tailored to your particular skin type and condition.

 The best at-home-spa treatment?

Take the opportunity to treat yourself a moment with a combined facial and hand treatment.

FACE:

Clean your face with a selected cleanser two times. First to wash of the day- make up, superficial impurities, slag, etc. The second wash cleanses and treats the skin. Continue with a gentle exfoliator that sweeps away all dead skin cells and prepares the skin for upcoming products. Follow up with a refreshing facial mist that moisturizes. Choose a customized serum that goes deep into the skin and treats it. Apply it under Sleeping Sensation Hydrating Mask for an extra skin boost. Don’t forget to apply a selected eye cream around the eyes. While the mask is working its magic, you can take the opportunity to give your hands a wonderful spa treatment. Let the face mask sit overnight as an intensive treatment.

HANDS:

Mix one pump of a body oil with one pump of body scrub and massage your hands, then rinse. Massage hand balm on cuticle and nail plate. Apply Hydrating Mask over your hands and place them in plastic bags for 20 minutes. Then fold in the leftovers and lubricate with Healthy Glow Hand Balm for moisture, protection and nutrition. New life and luster for both face and hands!
